Spring Awakening: An Astrological Meditation on Fragility, Healing, and Renewal.

Spring settles upon us like morning dew, feeling like a refreshing drop of life after a long and cold night. The vernal equinox and the first day of Aries season coincides with the end of one cycle and the beginning of a new one. The transition from Pisces season to Aries season is the culmination of the lessons we’ve learned from the last twelve signs.  Pisces asks us to dive into the depths of our subconscious and to connect to a power that lives beneath the surface. Pisces season is able to subtly move away energies in our lives that no longer serve us. When Aries season comes, it feels like the first breath after being underwater. The energy is refreshingly raw and gives us a euphoric reminder about the fragility of life.

The stars in the sky reveal to us a series of interweaving cycles. We look to the moon, it’s pale light illuminating the emotions inside of us, bringing out the desires within us that are yearning to be acknowledged. Our lives move much like the moon, waxing and waning, expanding and retracting, filling up and emptying. According to Ayurveda, an ancient Indian science, everything in the universe is made up of five elements; water, earth, fire, air and space. These elements make up everything around us, as well as our bodies. These elements move in rhythm with nature, changing as the seasons do. Our bodies are not separate from the changes happening around us, but rather an integral part of it. Our bodies are in a relationship with each and every organism around us, the ebb and flow of our energy is constantly interacting with our outer world.  Allowing ourselves to shift with the seasons, without resistance, creates a natural process of healing.

Nature teaches us, through her cycles, that everything has an ending and a beginning. In this way we understand that life and death must coexist in harmony in order for there to be balance. We often view death in a negative light, but it is just as important as birth. Learning to detach from the pain of endings is one of the lessons of this seasonal shift. The Piscean illusions that have allowed us to ignore our truth are being revealed. Increasingly, the call to us to walk on our path is growing from a whisper to a siren.

Our world is rapidly changing, and our lives will reflect this in the form of more frequent transformative experiences.  Major shifts will occur during this upcoming season. We can expect the unexpected, with turns and challenges that are meant to test our faith. It helps us to establish spiritual routines at this time, whether it be: yoga, meditation, prayer, tarot, ritual or attending a church, mosque or temple. As we strengthen our spiritual practice, we will ease our way through the coming seasons.

Though many of us live our lives according to our work or school schedules, the changing of the astrological seasons affect us in ways that are just as important. In a world that continues to extract our personal power by attempting to deny us our right to fully live an abundantly spiritual life, we must build our own spiritual wells. These deep wells of renewing energy are a source for us to draw from when we are weak and to offer to others when we are strong.  When we ground ourselves in a higher power, we become conduits for the healing that needs to happen in our world. We must create communities where we affirm our power and always remind ourselves that challenges come and go, just like the seasons.
