If you are struggling with this particular type of loss, honor her memory this Mother’s Day by being gentle with yourself.
When I was a new mom, I lost myself. I stopped writing (how could I when I wasn’t sleeping) and it took a deep look in the mirror to decide to stop beating myself up for it and prioritize coming back to myself outside of being a Mom… I had to realize that my child wanted what was best for me as well.
This Mother’s Day we sat down with Chicago’s forerunning style maven Autumn Merritt - a divine creative, wife , mother of two and co-owner of Sir & Madame. With her mother and daughter, they talk multigenerational mothering as a woman of color, love, activism and more. They remind us of the strands woven together in motherhood and the women we become in the sewing.
