“More money, more PROBLEMS”
“Get rich or DIE trying”
“Mama need a house, baby need some shoes. HUSTLE, HUSTLE, HUSTLE - - HARD”
Is there any wonder why we struggle with the idea of abundance?
You’ve heard it, “money doesn’t grow on trees or fall from the sky”. Right?!
Is there any question as to why we default to a lack, poverty, and scarcity mindset? It’s what we’ve been taught. It’s what we know. It’s what we’ve been led to believe.
Abundance always says there is more than enough; while scarcity says we must hold on and withhold because there is not enough. Abundance is based in love, while scarcity is based in fear.
The metaphysical text, A Course in Miracles, states, “There is no difficulty in the order of miracles”. As many of my spiritual teachers have said, “it is just as easy to call in a penny as it is to call in a million dollars”. The Universe and the Divine are always saying, “Yes” to our requests. However, we cut off receiving because of our limiting blocks.
Over time we have created stories and beliefs that we have rehearsed over and over and over again about money and abundance that have become embedded in our being. Beliefs that are not serving us, beliefs that are a complete contradiction to us as free beings. We have been taught that making money is hard; having and holding money is all about sacrifice; and a person with money must look and act a certain way.
What if you invited in the idea that money flows to you with ease?
What if you expanded your ideas of what abundance really was?
In 2016, on my vision board, was a clipping of the word, “MILLION”. I wanted a million dollars so that I could have freedom and white space in my day to do things like go for runs in the morning before work, have lunch with my friends in the afternoon, practice yoga, and be able to write and walk beside women on their spiritual journey as my life’s work. I desired to pick up my daughter when school let out so she didn’t have to go to extended day. I wanted to have the freedom to travel with my partner. In my mind, the million dollars meant abundance and was going to be the vehicle to get me everything I wanted.
It was about a year later, I was sitting having lunch with my good friend, E., who was also a client. We had just came from yoga and were enjoying lunch. Just before our food came to the table, I asked her if it would be okay if I took five minutes to return some emails. Ten minutes later, emails sent and our food was on the table.
In normal conversation, E. asked me what I was up to. Without much thought, I stated, “Girl, I’ve been running every other morning, then doing yoga on the other mornings. I have some new and exciting clients. And I just got back from a romantic trip in California. I finally feel in flow. How about you?”
E. went on to share the latest and greatest with her. She wrapped up her update; I asked for the bill as our conversation had gone on for hours and it was time to pick my baby up from school. While walking, it hit me. I had manifested every single thing I wanted. I was living the life of abundance I asked for (without the million dollars). WTF!
It was then that I acknowledged that abundance is not just about money. It’s about opening ourselves up to ALL the Universe has for us. And we open ourselves up by removing the blocks and the resistance to the thing we want. I had no resistance to the things I thought the money would bring me so they flowed to me with ease. I had actually forgot about them. It was the million dollars I obsessed over and therefore created resistance to it. Sometimes, there is some deep healing that needs to happen before abundance can really begin to flow to us and through us. Things a budget just won’t fix. I had never been honest about what I really wanted before then. I was sort of living by default.
If you are feeling like you are hitting a wall in any area in your life; specifically, money, I’d invite you to explore the following:
What is the money story you’ve been taught or heard over and over again throughout your life?
What do you believe about people with money?
What do you believe the money will do for you?
How much money is your desire each month?
Answer these questions and see what comes up for you. I imagine, it’s not about the money at all. The money represents something bigger, deeper.
Then, I ask you to explore something. Are you trying to go from zero to one hundred real quick? There are some things in our lives that call for quantum leaps but change that actually sticks is really about small shifts in the right direction. Yes?
Let’s say you ultimately land on the desire to have $1,000,000 in the bank in five years and you currently are at $0; ask yourself what would it take to get to $10, feel that energy, get into alignment. Then, $100, feel that energy, get into alignment. Then, $1000, feel that energy, get into alignment. And so on and so on.
Let me know how it goes.
